The Kilns Site
I’m so excited to announce that this past year I purchased 7 inspiring acres in Argyle, NY for the purpose of building pottery kilns. The current plan is to build 3 different style kilns over the next few seasons. First a 30 cubic foot gas kiln, then a 40 cubic foot wood kiln and lastly an 80 cubic foot wood kiln. The kilns will be used to fire work I will be making in Firelight studio in Saratoga and to fire work made by other clay artists, both local and from afar who would like to participate in the process.
There will be many opportunities for artists to join the firing crews, to gather, to learn, to fire, to build friendships around the kilns and of course to develop beautiful surfaces on our work. In the spring when the snow melts away and two freshly poured concrete slabs resurface I will begin the first two kilns and a kiln shed. Already there is a small 3 season camp with a woodstove, a hand dug well, a little kitchen, a stokers pergola and even a little brook rambling at the base of the hill. It is an inspiring place, giant oaks with water, stone, field and fire.
I will be updating you all on the progress this spring, I’m excited to get firing again. Come visit!!!!!
